How-To for Content Creators
How to upload content on Sprout
Before you can upload content to the site you need to register for an account. You can do that by clicking on the Register button, on the top right corner
After you are successfully registered, you will be redirected to the Sprout User Dashboard page
Once you have successfully created an account, to add data, you need to be added to an organization by a sysadmin or an admin of the organization
Create a Dataset on the Sprout portal
Once the system admin has added you to an organization, the next step is to create a dataset. Dataset is a collection of data resources (such as files), together with a description and other information, at a fixed URL. Datasets are what users see when searching for data.
A dataset contains two items:
1. Information or “metadata” about the data. For example, the title and publisher, date, what formats it is available in, what license it is released under, etc. The following fields are available for creating the metadata for the dataset:
Step 1: Select the "Datasets" section from the main navigation menu.
Step 2: Click on the “Add Dataset” button.
Result: A page for specifying the metadata of the dataset will be displayed as on figure below.
The following information that has to be provided is the metadata of the dataset.
Step 3: Enter "Title" for the dataset. Choose a descriptive title for the dataset. Note The URL identifier is automatically created by creating the name of the organization. Only this field is required.
Step 4: Enter "Description" for the dataset.
Step 5: Enter “Tags” that describe the dataset which can be used for searching the dataset.
Step 6: Choose to which organization the dataset belongs to from the dropdown menu.
Step 7: Choose the type of visibility of the dataset (public or private) from the dropdown menu. Private means that only the users of the specified organization will be able to use this dataset and public means that the dataset will be available to everyone.
Step 8: Specify a website
Step 9: Specify the contact name
Step 10: Specify the contact email address
Step 11: Choose the appropriate license from the dropdown menu.
Step 12: Press the “Add Data” button which leads to the resource part of the dataset.
2. A number of resources, which hold the data itself. Amplus Data Portal does not mind what format the data is in. A dataset can contain any number of resources. For example, different resources might contain the data for different years, or they might contain the same data in different formats. Each resource shared on the Portal can be easily downloaded by its user, through the “download” option. The following fields are available for creating a resource:
Result: A page for specifying the resource will be displayed as shown on figure below.
A resource can be any file or link to a file containing useful data.
Step 13: Under the "Data" field, select one of the listed options. The following options are enabled: "Upload" which allows the user to attach a dataset or "Link" which allows the user to enter a link. This field is required.
Step 14: Specify the name of the resource of the dataset.
Step 15: Enter the description of the resource of the dataset.
Step 16: Specify the format of the resource of the dataset (JSON, CSV or XML) - if not filled in CKAN will automatically check the format of the file and set it up
Step 17: Choose a language for the resource
Step 18: Press the “Finish” button at the lower right corner of the page.
Result: The metadata and the resource of the dataset are uploaded to the particular organization as shown on figure below.
